My thoughts on life, love, and other things not so serious.

For context read here. For the full account of #5 on both lists read here.

Top 5 things I am looking forward to regarding the Guatemala mission’s trip:

#5) Traveling to another country. (See Post #5 for more detail.)
#4) Climbing a volcano. Yep… We are climbing a volcano while we are in Guatemala. How crazy is that going to be? I really have no idea what to expect… we were told that it would be a fairly tough hike, or we could rent a horse for $10. Anyone out there have any volcano hiking experience? What should I do?
The reason I’m pumped about this is because I’ve recently been feeling a major itch to find more adventurous outlets in my life. Just this evening I was rambling to my wife about wanting to live a more adventurous life. Mark Batterson is one of my favorite authors and bloggers. He is constantly talking about checking things off of his life goal checklist, training for a marathon or triathlon, or doing something adventurous… often times with his son (which is cool on a whole different level, but that’s a different post). It’s clear that living a life of adventure is a core quality in his life. I’m sure that has something to do with the fact that he “should have died”. It seems like we always hear stories about people living life a little more full after a traumatic experience like this. A new prayer of mine is this: God, help me to live the full life you intended for me day in and day out. Help me to experience all of the adventure that you have in store for me, so that I can honor you more fully, and make you famous! My new path of adventure begins with the Volcano climb next week… I can’t wait!

Top 5 fears regarding the trip to Guatemala:

#5) Flying. (See Post #5 for more details)
#4) Getting Sick - Two words: Montezuma’s Revenge! I don’t want to get sick. I don’t want to have digestion issues (to put it gently). I don’t want to get lice. I don’t want to have any open wounds. It creeps me out just thinking about it. I hope I’m prepared…. I have the essentials: Neosporin, Band-Aids, Immodium, Rolaids, Pepto-Bismol, Special Shampoo, Purell hand sanitizer…. I hope that will do the trick! Anything else you would recommend for me to take?

  1. janet Said,

Dramamine. Not sure what the drivers in Guatemala are like, but I’ve yet to meet a good one in Ecuador — and my stomach is pretty strong in that regard.

As for the immodium – you can take it after each “issue” if you need to. Something got to me the last time in Ecuador and it took like six doses to stop it. But it stopped for the rest of the trip and you’re not going for near as long. hehe

janets last blog post..Too much to do

  2. Carrie Stogner Said,

Dont worry cuz if you get lice I got just the clippers for your head…it’s what I do..lol! Love ya

  3. Jim Knepper Said,

    Luke:

Hope you’re enjoying your trip and are helping some people along the way. Just remember that there are 100 species of snakes in Guatemala, 99 are deadly venomous and will kill you quick! The other one is NOT venomous, he just eats you whole! Also remember that aviation has a perfect record, we’ve never left anyone up there yet.

Say hi to Pattie and Herbie and go for it!

    Later, Jim

  4. luke Said,

Carrie, I returned lice free! However, were I in need, you would have been my first call!

Uncle Jim, Thanks for visiting the blog! Your comment was hilarious, Herb & I laughed out loud reading it!

We had a great time on the trip, Pattie & Herb were fantastic to have along with us. Thanks for your love & support!

    Luke
